The QUAD FM3 was the final piece in my restored QUAD HiFi setup, next to the legendary 33 preamp and 303 power amp, an iconic trio known for timeless, simple design and build quality. While the 33 and 303 still perform very well today, the FM3 tuner had become obsolete. Because I love the design of the FM3, I wanted to change it into something usable in 2024, a music streamer. I fitted it with a Raspbetty Pi running moOde audio player. The signal is then converted using a high quality DAC. The original tuner knob is converted to a next/previous and play/pause button. The original interface is converted into a orange/yellow LCD matching the color or the 33 power indicator. It displays the current track, time and retro animations. The system hosts a local library of music, but can also be used with Spotify or Apple Music.
